Overview

The new lodge-based Arkaba Walk offers a chance to discover the best of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park as well as the unique Arkaba conservancy and Elder Ranges returning to the comfort of Arkaba Homestead each night. Wildlife viewing opportunities are everywhere on this 4 day guided experience expertly led by Arkaba’s professional guides. With a small group of up to 10 guests and a dedicated chef showcasing local produce and wines each night, you will love the balance between nature and luxury comforts on this special 4 day experience. After a big day on the track, a nightly tipple by the Homestead fire will have you retiring to bed content and ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Enjoy an afternoon safari drive taking in views of the Elder and Flinders Ranges, valleys and creeklines, and the many native inhabitants of this 60,000 acre conservancy. You'll be sure to spot emus and kangaroos, and your afternoon will be capped off with a sundowner drink on top of the ranges with views of the outback laid out for miles around. Enjoy dinner hosted by Arkaba's field guides on the outdoor terrace tonight with views of the outback sky. Native local ingredients and South Australian wines from the Clare Valley and Barossa are featured on the menu. After dinner enjoy a port by the bonfire for a uniquely Australian experience.

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast at the Homestead before setting off for Arkaba Creek to start your day’s walk. Explore the shady creek bed and witness how the ancient creek lines carve their way through Arkaba’s landscape. Birdlife is plentiful along the creek with opportunities to spot galahs, honeyeaters and parrots this morning. After lunch enjoy the undulating hills of the ancient alluvial soil as you make your way along an Elder Range ridge top before climbing Arkaba Hill and finally descending back to the comfort of the Homestead. Today's walk is approximately 14 km (5-6 hours) with lunch enjoyed on the track today. Tonight is another wonderful three course dinner with a view of the outback.

Day 3

After breakfast, your guides will lead the way as you explore the wildlife and landscape of Arkaba Conservancy and learn of the benefits it has brought to the Flinders Ranges. Pass undulating terrain of acacia and she-oak groves, and permanent water sources that are an important life source for native kangaroos, emus, parrots and other local wildlife. Return to the Arkaba Homestead in time for a bush-inspired late lunch, and enjoy some time to put your feet up this afternoon before another sundowner drinks and dinner with new friends. Today's walk averages 14 km and takes 5-6 hours.

Day 4

Arguably the most spectacular day, you will set off early this morning on a drive into the breathtaking valleys and ranges of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. On the way pass the impressive Wilpena Pound as you make your way to Bunyeroo Valley. Following the Wilcolo track you'll explore some of the more remote sections of the national park on your walk today taking in views of the ABC and Heysen Ranges. The wildlife viewing opportunities continue with a chance to spot the rare yellow-footed rock wallaby that is endemic to this region. Today's walk covers 11 km and takes 4-5 hours. Return to the Homestead for dinner and enjoy time soaking in the view of this special landscape you have traversed over the past few days.
