The perfect taste of Tasmania’s World-Heritage protected wilderness, Walk into Luxury's 4 day small group experience at Pumphouse Point takes in the best walking in the southern end of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Guests stay at boutique wilderness lodge, Pumphouse Point, known for its unique architecture and dramatic setting with guests staying in the Pumphouse rooms perched overlooking Lake St Clair. Starting and ending in Hobart, your first day sees you hiking part of the Tarn Shelf Circuit to Lake Dobson and Rodway Hut in Mt Field National Park before arriving at Lake St Clair. Over the next few days enjoy the best day hikes around Lake St Clair with the chance to travel to one of the trails by boat and experience Lake St Clair from the water. Your local guide-host will ensure you experience key sights on your four day journey, with a short walk in Franklin River-Wild National Park and a visit to an award-winning distillery also included. Local Tasmanian produce and wines complete the experience.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

You set off from Hobart this morning arriving at Mt Field National Park before lunch. Today's walk follows a section of the Tarn Shelf track up to Lake Dobson and Rodway Hut before circling back and taking in the beautiful Pandani Grove. The alpine vistas are sure to impress on a trail that is considered one of Tasmania's best day walks. Time permitting we will also visit Russell Falls, which is one of the most photographed waterfalls in Tasmania. This area is filled with mossy rainforest scenery and features some of the world's tallest trees. On arrival at Pumphouse Retreat, check-in to your room with a view and enjoy a pre-dinner glass of wine with your Walk into Luxury host in one of the Pumphouse lounges overlooking the lake. Hear about what's in store for your time at Lake St Clair, before moving to the Shorehouse Building for dinner. Your host will ensure you are settled in with Tasmanian wine to accompany your three course share style dinner before wishing you goodnight.

Day 2

Breakfast at Pumphouse is a cosy affair with guests gathering in the Shorehouse to enjoy coffee by the fire and a highland breakfast as you watch the birds flit across the lake. After a peaceful start to your day, set off with your guide to the trailhead at Cynthia Bay. Today we enjoy a 13km circuit walk taking in the best walking in the Lake St Clair half of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park including Shadow Lake and Forgotten Lake. After a local trail lunch, we visit nearby Franklin River-Wild National Park for a one hour walk to a viewing platform with captivating views of the Franklin and Collingwood River and Frenchman's Cap. On return to the Retreat, relax by one of the fires with a pre-dinner before meeting fellow guests for dinner in the Shorehouse.

Day 3

This morning is another chance to discover the beauty of Lake St Clair, with a guided 10 km (3 hour) walk following the edge of Lake St Clair out to Echo Point. This walk covers a small section of the Overland Track. From Echo Point you'll take a 20 minute water transfer back to Cynthia Bay and have a unique opportunity to view Lake St Clair and its surrounding mountains from the water. After, you'll be whisked back to the Retreat in time to enjoy a warming lunch including freshly baked hot bread straight from the oven delivered to your room to enjoy with cheese and soup from your in-room Larder. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy the trails, e-bikes and row boats offered at Pumphouse Point. At the day's end, meet new friends for a fireside drink before a final dinner at the Shorehouse.

Day 4

Your final morning begins with another freshly baked and locally sourced breakfast followed by time for an optional walk around the Pumphouse grounds to stretch out any sore legs before the journey back to Hobart. On the way we will stop at a historic Estate turned award-winning distillery to sip on a warming local spirit or two. Enjoy views of the River Derwent and hear about the history of this special property before your onward transfer to Hobart.
