Did you know one of the best walks in Australia, the Cape to Cape track, is also part of one of Australia’s most important biodiversity hotspots? Almost 80% of the plant species found in the South West region of Western Australia, are found nowhere else on earth. The coastal plains of the South West region are one of the world’s most important areas for conservation, and if you come in spring you’ll see why!

Although there are wildflowers year-round, the best time to be truly amazed at the intensity and variety of the wildflowers is from August to November. Great places to see the wildflowers are along the coastal walking tracks, clifftops, rivers, forests and around the caves. Or better still, take a guided walking tour, and experience this Spring time brilliance while you learn from one of our expert guides.

On one of our recent walks, our guides spotted a multitude of rare and beautiful wildflowers including donkey orchids, pink fairies, purple pansy orchids, vanilla lilies, old man’s beard and wild geraniums. Some of these rare flowers only bloom for a few weeks, so now is the time to come and witness the explosion of colour set against the stunning natural scenery of the Cape to Cape Track!

Over 2,500 species of wildflowers decorate the region with the brightest of colours including blue, lime green, yellow, red, pink, orange, white and mauve to name just a few. The intricacy of the flowers will enchant you, especially the orchids. There are reportedly up to 200 species of orchid in the region alone, many of which are rare and endangered. Be on the lookout for the splendid spider orchid and giant donkey orchid, which are celebrated finds amongst botanical enthusiasts.

Our most popular tour, the 4 day Cape to Cape (Margaret River) Walk is, as the name suggests, located on the Cape to Cape track in Western Australia and is a great way to experience the wildflowers (operating weekly in Spring). The track is one of Australia’s best walks and is considered by many to be Australia’s premier coastal walk. The track traverses some 135km from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin along Australia’s South Western edge. Walk into Luxury has hand-selected the most scenic sections of the walk and sections that showcase the diverse mix of terrain, flora and fauna found in the area. The terrain is an enticing mix of turquoise beaches, granite and limestone clifftops, coastal bush and magnificent karri forest. The whale migration along the Cape to Cape coastline from June to November is visible from the track, and an array of wildlife including emus, kangaroos and native birds, are spotted on and around the track year round.

So with wildflowers blooming and nature calling, is it finally time to tick a Cape to Cape Tour off your bucket list!
